HISTORY OF ISLAM IN PHILIPPINES
A. Islam in Southeast Asia
Since the reign of Bani Umaiyah era known as an aggressive, concentrated attention to the business where territorial expansion and conquest, which stopped the second time since last Khulafaurrasyidin. Only within the last 90 years, many nations in the four corners of the eyes rollicking wind power into Islam, which includes land Spain, all regions of North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Syria, Palestine, half the area of Anatolia, Iraq, Persia, Afghanistan, India and countries which are now called Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan which included Soviet Russia. (Ali Mufrodi, 1996, pp. 80)
Regarding the place of origin of the rise of Islam in Southeast Asia. there are at least three major theories. First, the theory that Islam came directly from Arabic, or rather Hadramaut. This theory is put forward Crawfurd (1820), Keyzer (1859), Niemann (1861), De Hollander (1861), and Veth (1878). Crawfurd states that Islam came directly from Arabic, though he calls the relationship with the people Mohammaden in East India. Keyzer think that Islam came from Egypt who bermadzhab Syafe'i, the same as that adopted for the Muslim archipelago generally. This theory is also held by Niemann and de Hollander, but with the mention of Hadramawt, not Egypt, as the source of the rise of Islam, because Muslims are followers of Hadramaut Syafe'i schools as well as the Muslims of the archipelago. (Azyumardi Azra, 1999, pp. 31)
